I built this shack by hand in my friend's backyard in Queens, New York City, and have been living inside of it since it's completion in June 2018.

 

Upon returning to New York City after getting my BFA in Baltimore, I found it nearly impossible to find an affordable place to live. The shack took just over a year to complete and was the most strenuous and dedicated project I've ever done. It is insulated, wired with electricity, completely weatherproof, and suitable for comfortable year-round living. I built it in part because I was curious about the experience of building something on my own that I could live inside of, and it has been an incredibly rewarding experience in many ways. It has been an airy, earthy creative refuge tucked away in a concrete metropolis.
